About Us.

Where do we start?
I started to keep chickens myself when I was about ten-years-old; thirty + years ago in about 1990. I used to carry an old wire freezer draw basket, door-to-door, selling eggs to the local houses. I would also sell them from a table at the top of the farm lane during the weekends.

That summer my Dad let me have the straw off of the front field. I had to pay a local farmer to bale it and I sold them at the top of the lane for 50p per bale through the summer holidays.

Following that my parents started up North Mersea Farm Shop as diversification for the farm which run for many years.

The farm changed over the years and I had different commitments and gave up my Eggs / Chickens etc but always missed that life style.

On the 5th of June 2013, we re-branded the shop as Mersea Farm Shop and opened it as a farm shop and animal petting centre. This was all very well received but I struggled staffing it and decided to close it just a year later. Ever since I have regretted that decision.

Since then the Farm has carried on selling Hay, Straw, Haylage etc to stables and pet stores.

In 2020, after the first lock down, a local store pet & garden centre that has been running for nearly 40 years shut down. The lady who owned it decided to retire and we thought this would be the ideal time to give Mersea Farm Shop a new lease of life.
This started out online, with free local delivery. This then grew into opening a physical shop one day a week, to then opening six days a week. Now, roughly a year on, we have grown to carry an extensive range of products, with affordable and competitive prices, and hope to continue to progress as time goes on.
